On September 9, Constance “Connie” Repaci Sciglimpaglia’s family held a surprise ninety-fifth birthday party where she exclaimed, “How lovely!” To the great sadness and surprise of her family, she passed into God’s loving embrace on September 21, 2023.

Indeed, she was a lovely woman with a great sense of humor, a fierce love, and a strong will. That tenacity helped her both grieve and grow after the loss of her husband Louis, whom she was married to for sixty-two years. Following the loss of her husband in 2011, she endured the loss of her eldest son, Victor, who died at the age of sixty-six in 2018.

The theme of Mom’s ninety-fifth birthday party was based on The Golden Girls sitcom that ran on network TV from 1985 to 1992. Connie was our “Golden Girl.”

Connie was an extrovert who made friends easily. She cultivated lasting friendships wherever she spent her time. Connie enjoyed going to the Newtown Senior Center, reading to children in the Newtown School System, and singing in the choir at the Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield.

After the passing of her husband, Connie wasn’t one to sit still. She was constantly changing the decorations and furniture in her living space. We joked Mom had a black belt in shopping hidden away somewhere.

She was a caretaker who was always concerned about the welfare of others and always ready to feed you her famous cheesecake.

We always wondered why Connie was in such a hurry. Maybe she had FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out)? She often had us in stitches. As she got older, her physical health declined. She would say things like, “First the teeth go, then the eyes, and then it’s patch, patch, patch.” Connie always looked her best, even when she didn’t feel it. As Blanche Devereaux once said, “Isn’t it amazing how I can feel so bad, and still look so good?”

Connie was known as ‘Mommy,’ ‘Mumzie,’ and ‘Mama’ to her children: Victor, LuAnn, Larry and her youngest daughter, Lisa. To her grand and great-grandchildren, Connie, Cole, Clairice, Jaxon, Asa, and Gunnar she was known as ‘Grammy.’ Most recently, she enjoyed learning about modern rock bands with Cole and was surprised by Clarice with a visit from Portland, Ore.

Counted among those who will miss her bright presence are her son-in-law Michael, daughter-in-law Susan, brother Vincent, and sister-in-law Angela. There are also many nieces and nephews who will hold her in their hearts.

Connie was born in Byram, Conn., on September 5, 1927, to Salvatore Repaci and Mary Furci.

After graduating from Port Chester High School in 1941 she worked in retail during the day and sang with local bands at night. One night, Connie met her husband, Louis, while she was singing at Laddin’s Terrace in Stamford, Conn. They were married on February 27, 1949.

There is too much to say about her that just cannot be put into words. Connie was an original and there will never be another like her.

There will be a memorial service at Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield at 11 am on Saturday October 21, 2023. Please, come and help us celebrate what a blessing Connie was to us.
