Newtown United Mission and Outreach invites the public to join members of the Sandy Hook church in supporting Binky Patrol.

The national nonprofit that has operated for 30 years has a mission of providing handmade blankets to children from newborn to 18 years old. It also provides baby hats measuring six to eight inches.

The blankets provide warmth and security, something children can hold onto and call their own.

The articles go to critically ill children, traumatized children, children who are scared, sad, and those who are hurting. The items are delivered to social agencies, shelters, schools, homes, and hospitals including Danbury Hospital.

NUMC Mission and Outreach members are requesting donations of new fleece tie blankets, quilts, and knitted and crocheted blankets measuring from 30 by 30 to 45 by 60 inches. Crocheted squares are also requested; Binky Patrol volunteers crochet them together.

Donations of fleece, yarn, and cash are also accepted. For those who would like to donate, checks should be payable to NUMC with Binky Patrol on the memo line.

A drop box for Binky Patrol donations has been placed in the narthex of the church. Checks can also be left there or mailed to the church, 92 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook CT 06482.
