Evading Charge

Newtown Police report Robert Lynch, 44, of New Milford, operating a 2014 Toyota Rav4, was turning left onto the Boulevard from Church Hill Road at 8:14 am September 8. Lynch struck a temporary stop sign, then left the scene without contacting police.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

Lynch was arrested and charged with evading responsibility and making a restricted turn.

Resisting Arrest, Larceny Charges

Newtown Police report that at 6:21 pm September 8, officers were dispatched to Cherry Street for a report of an older male with gray hair going in and out of vehicles up Cherry Street toward Riverside Road. Upon arrival, a man fitting the description was found walking on Glen Road. The man was identified as John Pappajohn, 64, of New London, and he was taken into custody and charged with disobeying the signal of an officer, interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, two counts of sixth-degree larceny, and possession of a controlled substance.

Pappajohn was held in custody after being unable to post bond and was given a court date of September 9 in Danbury Superior Court.

Operating Under Suspension

Newtown Police report that on September 9, during a routine motor vehicle stop, it was determined that the operator, Joseph Attonito, 46, of Newtown, was operating without a license. Attonito was arrested and given a misdemeanor summons for operating while under suspension.

Attonito was released on a promise to appear with a court date of September 23 in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Maintain Lane

Newtown Police report that Johnathan Buhs, 41, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road near Toddy Hill Road in the middle lane at 10:53 am September 9. Lindsay Pachihofer, 40, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2024 Ford Explorer, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road near Toddy Hill Road in the leftmost lane. Buhs said he was following an erratic driver so he went to pass the vehicle on the left but did not see Pachihofer.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Buhs was issued a written warning for failure to maintain a lane.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Scott Adamsons, 52, of West Hartford, operating a 2004 Honda Odyssey, was traveling northbound on Nunnawauk Road at 3:06 pm September 9. He was traveling behind a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Mark Duley, 46, of Seymour. Duley stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with Wasserman Way, and Adamsons rear-ended his vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Adamsons was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Evading Vehicle

Newtown Police report that sometime between the night of September 10 and the morning of September 11, an unknown vehicle was traveling south on West Street. The vehicle drove up and over a curb and drove over approximately 25 feet of flowers before striking two mailboxes. The vehicle then left the scene. Debris found at the scene "appeared to be black in color" and was stamped with the Mazda name and logo.

The vehicle and its operator have not yet been identified.

Sideswiped Car In Traffic

Newtown Police report Jose Machado-Estabridis, 25, of Danbury, operating a 2008 Honda CR-V, was traveling westbound on Currituck Road at 9:11 am September 11. He was traveling behind a 2021 Mazda CX-5 Touring operated by Cindy Glaberson, 68, of Sandy Hook. Glaberson stopped for traffic ahead and Machado-Estabridis struck the side of her vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Machado-Estabridis was issued a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Traveling Too Fast, Rear-Ended Car

Newtown Police report John Lorenti, 21, of Orange, operating a 2014 Volkswagen GTI, was leaving the Interstate 84 Exit 11 off ramp onto Wasserman Way at 5:15 pm September 11. He was traveling behind a 2003 Jeep Wrangler operated by Bora Mataj, 19, of Brewster, N.Y. Mataj began to slow down for traffic ahead and was rear-ended by Lorenti.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Lorenti was issued an infraction for following too close and traveling unreasonably fast.

Changed Lanes Into Car

Newtown Police report Bradley Frade, 29, of New Milford, operating a 2018 Ford F650, was stationary in the right westbound lane of Glover Avenue, waiting for a red light, at 5:47 pm September 12. Adebola Osakwe, 47, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Tesla Model 3, was traveling in the left westbound lane on Glover Avenue. Frade attempted to change lanes and struck Osakwe's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Frade was issued a written warning for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Use Of Mobile Phone Charge

Newtown Police report Alexander Gadbut, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 7:42 am September 14. He was traveling behind a 2022 Jeep Wrangler operated by Hans Barth, 53, of Sandy Hook. Barth stopped for traffic ahead and Gadbut rear-ended his vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Gadbut was issued a written warning for failure to travel a reasonable distance apart and use of a mobile device while operating a motor vehicle. Barth was issued a verbal warning for operating an unregistered vehicle.

Failure To Obey Red Light

Newtown Police report Jesus Quintana, 58, of Waterbury, operating a 2010 Dodge Ram, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 11:39 am September 14. Marcia Cavanaugh, 89, of Newtown, operating a 2025 BMW 228xi, was stopped at the red light in the eastbound travel lane at the intersection of Church Hill Road and the Interstate 84 Exit 10 on and off ramps. Quintana failed to obey the traffic signal and rear-ended Cavanaugh's vehicle.

Quintana was transported by EMS to Danbury Hospital for evaluation with a suspected minor injury. Quintana's vehicle was towed.

Quintana was issued a verbal warning for failure to obey a traffic control signal.

Uninsured, Unregistered

Newtown Police report George Geanuracos, 62, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, was attempting to make a left turn from a parking lot on Church Hill Road at 4:46 pm September 14. Karen Dunbar, 60, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Audi A5, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road. Geanuracos struck Dunbar's vehicle while exiting the driveway.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Geanuracos was issued an infraction for illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Arrested On Warrant

Newtown Police report that on September 16, James Michaud, 53, of Danbury, was arrested on an active arrest warrant. He was taken into custody and charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension and following too close.

Michaud was released on a $5,000 bond with a court date of September 31 in Danbury Superior Court.

Vehicle Towed After Rear End Collision

Newtown Police report Kevin Nilsen, 22, of Bethel, operating a 2005 Ford Ranger, was traveling on Mt Pleasant Road at 7:43 pm September 16. He was traveling behind a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Sevigny Fortin, 28, of Chester, that was stopped at the intersection with Mt Pleasant Terrace waiting to make a left turn. Nilsen rear-ended Fortin's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Nilsen's vehicle was towed.

Nilsen was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Hit Car While Passing

Newtown Police report Christian Dushi, 19, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2023 Toyota Rav4, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way at 9:39 pm September 17. James Foster, 39, of Stratford, operating a 2024 Tesla Model Y, was traveling behind him. Dushi crossed the double yellow line and passed Foster's vehicle, but when merging back into the eastbound land struck the front of Foster's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Dushi was issued a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
