Newcomers & Neighbors Make Introductions To Residents

The Newtown Newcomers & Neighbors Club recently held its annual kick-off event, opened for the first time to other local groups.
âThe object is to get awareness of other organizations and to present a comprehensive overview of other things available,â said Newcomers publicity chair Shari Sadowski. The evening is traditionally intended to showcase the Newcomers & Neighbors.
âWe stress neighbors,â Ms Sadowski explained. The club is not necessarily just for those new to town, but is meant to help people make friends, she said.
âIt also helps people who are experiencing lifestyle changes,â said Ms Sadowski. She noted that some people think the club is for new mothers.
Clarifying, she said, âYou donât need to be new â or a new mother â to be a participant. We have activities to satisfy a number of people in town; we support friendships and activities that can make the transition into a new phase of life easier.â The group might appeal to anyone from empty nesters to stay-at-home moms, she said.
The Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall was filled on the evening of September 15. âIt went well and over 50 families attended,â said Ms Sadowski.
The evening saw raffles, prizes, refreshments, and an abundance of information regarding local groups including Newtown Bridle Lands Association, Newtown Choral Society, Family Counseling Center, Newtown Junior Womenâs Club, Newtown Youth Services, Visiting Nurses Association, Women Involved in Newtown, and others.
