Parent Connection Laughing It Up With Dr Saltman

The Newtown Parent Connection is presenting its first forum of the 2006-2007 season featuring Dr Joyce Saltman, aka “The Laughter Lady,” Thursday, October 5, from 7 to 9 pm, at the Reed Intermediate School Auditorium. Dr Saltman will address parenting issues for children of all ages and developmental stages for parents only; no students will be admitted to this forum.

The premise of her talk will focus on building and maintaining strong relationships among family members, and she delivers her message with great enthusiasm and humor. This program is opened to all who live, work, or have contact with children in any phase of life.

Dr Saltman is a professor of special education at Southern Connecticut State University. Her doctorate is from Columbia University and she holds four graduate degrees in the fields of special education and counseling.

Before pursuing a career as a laughter consultant, she had another as a stand-up comedienne for dozens of clubs and organizations, including Dangerfield’s and Good Times in New York City. Her experience in the areas of education, therapy, and comedy has provided a comprehensive background for her research into the therapeutic value of laughter.

Dr Saltman has written and spoken on a wide range of topics — from dealing with difficult people to parenting — and she liberally sprinkles her talks with humor and advice to lighten up and laugh more in life. For more information, visit the Newtown Parent Connection website at newtownparentconnection.org.

The organization’s next forum, “No Bullies Allowed!,” will take place November 8.
