Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint

During the nighttime hours of Friday, September 29, and early morning hours of Saturday, September 30, town police plan to hold a sobriety checkpoint on an unspecified local road.

Each motorist traveling through the checkpoint will be briefly stopped. Drivers will be interviewed to determine if they are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Ten police officers and a supervisor will be checking motorists.

Drivers found to be under the influence will be arrested and transported to the police station for arrest processing. Drivers also are checked for various other violations while stopped.

The sobriety checkpoint program is made possible through a law enforcement grant, which covers 75 percent of overtime costs for the project, according to police.
