To the Editor:

Once again, it is with great honor that I accept the nomination of the Newtown Democratic Party to run for a sixth term on the Legislative Council for District 2.

I am a lifelong resident of Main Street, Newtown, and a graduate of Newtown High School. Throughout my life, I have served Newtown in many ways: I volunteered as a Hook & Ladder Fireman for 17 years, stood as a past member and chairman of the Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners, and I am currently serving as one of Newtown’s representatives on the Board of Directors of Housatonic Regional Transit (HART), and have recently been elected as chairman of the board.

Additionally, for many years I have been actively involved in community service conducted through my longtime membership in the Newtown Rotary Club where I am a past president. For the past two years I have been a member of the Education and Municipal Operations Committees of the Legislative Council. I am proud to have been a member of the Legislative Council that has kept the mill rate flat using fiscally responsible methods while meeting the needs of town government and the Board of Education.

I will continue to be attentive and responsive to all the people of Newtown — whether you have children in our schools or are a retired senior citizen, whether you have lived in town for years or you’re just finding a new place to call home.

I understand that serving on the Legislative Council takes much more than attending the twice monthly meetings — it involves working with all members of the Council no matter what political party, to build consensus on the many issues Newtown faces today. I again look forward to the opportunity to serve Newtown in this manner.

Sincerely,

Daniel T. Honan
