Key Chain Found

Newtown Police report that keys with a cow key chain were located near 2 Bennetts Bridge Road in Newtown on July 28. The owner is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department at 203-426-5841 to retrieve their property.

Hit Fence Post

Newtown Police report Campos Ferreira, 29, of Danbury, operating a 2001 Ford F150, had pulled into a driveway on Main Street and was attempting to turn around at 2:40 am September 18. The property owner saw Ferreira’s vehicle hit a picket fence post next to the driveway. Ferreira told police he did not know he had hit the fence.

No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.

Motorcycle Rear Ends Car

Newtown Police report John Jones, 65, of Danbury, operating a 2017 Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide Ultra, was traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 2:57 pm September 18 behind a 2017 Honda CR-V operated by WG Chunir-Guallpa, 32, of Danbury, who had stopped at a red light. Jones slowed to stop but the front end of his vehicle collided with the rear of Chunir-Guallpa’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Jones was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Officer Nearly Struck

Newtown Police report that while responding to a call for service in the area of Hawleyville Road and Mt Pleasant Road, a responding officer was almost hit head on by another vehicle at 7:33 pm September 18. The officer was able to avoid the collision and make a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Luc Fontilus of Bridgeport was issued a misdemeanor summons for driving without insurance, misuse of a license plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and driving the wrong way.

Fontilus’s vehicle was towed. His court date is September 29 in Danbury Superior Court.

Collided With Box Truck

Newtown Police report Babe Jackson, 89, of Trumbull, operating a 2012 Ford F150, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 7:42 am September 20. He was traveling behind a 2020 HINO 268A-20 box truck operated by Marco Sanchez, 39, of Danbury. Sanchez slowed for traffic and the front of Jackson’s vehicle hit the rear of Sanchez’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Jackson’s vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

Jackson was issued an infraction for following too closely.

Struck Tree

Newtown Police report that at 4:40 pm September 22, Ana Pena, 46, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2023 Kia Sportage, was pulling into a driveway on Nutmeg Lane with the intention of reversing back into the roadway. Pena accelerated the vehicle instead of applying the brakes and collided with a tree in the front yard.

No injuries were reported. Pena’s vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

No enforcement action was taken as the incident occurred on private property.

Larceny Arrest

Newtown Police arrested Mary Witty, 62, of Newtown, at 9:41 am September 23 on the charge of third-degree larceny. She turned herself in to Newtown Police after an arrest warrant was issued for her. The warrant is the result of an investigation made into a complaint from July 18.

Witty is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on October 12.

Collision Leaving Driveway

Newtown Police report Ryan Gillinger, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2009 Toyota Camry, was exiting a driveway on Washington Avenue, at noon on September 23. Deshrim Kaliqi, 27, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling westbound on Washington Avenue. The front of Kaliqi’s vehicle made contact with the driver’s side of Gillinger’s vehicle.

EMS was dispatched for possible injuries to Kaliqi, but he was not transported. Gillinger’s vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

Gillinger was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a private driveway.

Following Too Closely

Newtown Police report Samantha Post, 28, of Monroe, operating a 2015 Fiat 500 Sport, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 12:14 pm September 23. She was traveling behind a 2013 Honda CR-V operated by Jakeline Irrek, 48, of Brookfield. Irrek stopped for traffic, and Post did not stop in time. The front of Post’s vehicle collided with the rear of Irrek’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Post was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Accord Hits Corvette

Newtown Police report Codi Sealund, 23, of Bridgeport, operating a 2014 Honda Accord, was traveling southbound on Dinglebrook Lane at 1:56 pm September 23. She was traveling behind a 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray operated by Paul Genna, 58, of Newtown. Genna stopped for northbound traffic going around a mail carrier vehicle. Sealund did not stop in time and the front of her vehicle struck the rear end of Genna’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Sealund was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Rear Ended On Brushy Hill

Newtown Police report Tucker Hauck, 20, of Newtown, operating a 2006 Dodge Charger, was traveling westbound on Brushy Hill Road at 3:16 pm September 24. He was traveling behind a 2020 Volvo XC40 operated by Laura Erhardt, 74, of Brookfield. The front of Hauck’s vehicle hit the rear of Erhardt’s vehicle.

Erhardt complained of lower back soreness but was not transported. Hauck’s vehicle was towed.

Hauck was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.
