   Cindy Schlier, a 1999 graduate of Newtown High School, is playing sixth singles for the Susquehanna University women’s tennis team in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Susquehanna is 6-0 (4-0 in the Commonwealth Conference). Schlier upper her personal record to 7-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kelly Stauffer of Lebanon Valley University.

Shaun Cavanaugh, a 1999 graduate of Newtown High School, now a junior midfielder with the Wheaton College men’s soccer team, was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 23. Cavanaugh led nationally-ranked Wheaton to a 2-0 week with a pair of goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal against Plymouth State and the game-winning assist against MIT. After a 3-1 win over Endicott recently, Cavanaugh (who scored two goals) continues to lead Wheaton in goals and points.

Andrew Smith, a 2001 graduate of Newtown High School, is a member of the Ithaca College men’s soccer team. He started seven of the Bombers’ first eight games and assisted on a goal in Ithaca’s 4-1 loss to eighth-ranked St. Lawrence. He scored his first collegiate goal in a 4-1 win over Oswego. The Bombers were 1-7-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Empire 8 Conference play.

Liz Bishop of Newtown, a 2000 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Trumbull, has started three games in goal and has recorded three shutouts in helping lead the Ithaca College women’s soccer team, to a 6-0-0 record. Ithaca has not only shut out all six of its opponents, but has out-shot them 146-19. Bishop has made eight saves in the three games she started.

Sue Judge MacMullan of Newtown, a 1986 graduate of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, has been named to the college’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Competing for the Saint Michael’s swim team from 1982 to 1986, MacMullan was considered one of the top one-meter divers in New England and currently holds four records for the Purple Knights. Besides diving, she also competed in the freestyle and relay events and twice qualified for the NCAA Division II championships.
