Police Postpone Tug Of War

BRIDGEPORT — The statewide State Police Tug of War to benefit the Swim Across the Sound has been postponed because of the terrorist attack in New York.

The Tug of War was scheduled for October 13 to 14 and has been moved to May 2002.

In May, each State Police barracks will field a Tug of War team and invites other members of the community to form teams to compete locally. The winners from each State Police barracks district will advance to compete in the finals on the grounds of the State Capital. Lieutenant Governor Jodi Rell will serve as the chairman of the Tug of the War.

To enter, the member of each team will pledge a minimum of $100 with all the funds going to support women diagnosed with breast cancer through St Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound programs.

For the first time, the Swim is partnering in the Tug of War with the prestigious Susan G. Kolmen Foundation to serve women with cancer across the state. The swim is scheduled to help women with breast cancer in the southern part of the state while the Kolmen Foundation serves the northern part.

For more information about the Tug of War call St Vincent’s Foundation 203-576-5451 or visit the Swim website, www.swimsound.org.
