The Center for Contemporary Printing will be returning to HealingNewtown, 14 West Street,  for a final monotype printing workshop on Saturday, October 11, from 1-4 pm.

The workshop will explore more advanced techniques in monotype. Basic techniques will also be reviewed.

Very similar to painting, monotype involves applying inks to a plexiglass plate, then running the plate and paper through a press to create the image. Inks can be applied in a variety of ways to make a huge range of effects and marks. Students can apply ink with fingers, brushes, rollers, and stencils, and can layer color by running.

Appropriate for all ages, this workshop will include lots of personal attention to allow for artists at many different levels to participate, with an emphasis on experimentation. Students should be prepared with some source imagery (photographs, drawings, paintings) to use as inspiration.

Visit eventbrite.com to register for the free workshop, or call HealingNewtown Director Valerie Culbertson at 203-364-9230 with questions.

Newtown Cultural Arts Commission is nearing the end of its HealingNewtown project, but commissioners said this week they have every intention of continuing to offer, host, and/or sponsor programs covering numerous artistic interests.
