The Newtown High School Band & Guard scored a Group Three Open first place finish at New Milford High School’s Silver Showcase on September 25. The first place finish followed another first place captured at Danbury High School’s Band Jamboree on September 19.

The band and guard had a particularly full weekend after a planned “Junk in Your Trunk” evening on September 24, when the students unloaded more than 60 carloads of donated items for the group’s annual tag sale. The tag sale was then held on September 25.

The event’s fundraising goal was exceeded, and all proceeds help to support the band and guard’s activities in the community.

The next stop on the NHS Marching Band & Guard’s fall competition circuit is USBand’s Yamaha Cup, an all-day event at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

The NHS Marching Band & Guard has also slated the 25th Annual Joseph P. Grasso Festival, the group’s home show at NHS, 12 Berkshire Road, for Saturday, October 16, from 6 pm 9 pm. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for children.
