More Of The Same Won't Fix Connecticut

To The Editor:

Democratic candidates are asking voters to expand their supermajority in Hartford so they can "get things done." But after more than 30 years of Democratic control of state government, including the Governor's Office and overwhelming majorities in the House and Senate, Connecticut voters should ask a simple question:

If a supermajority hasn't fixed these problems already, why would a bigger supermajority do so now?

Connecticut remains one of the most expensive states in which to live. We face a crushing property tax burden, some of the highest electric rates in the nation, and a growing list of state mandates that drive up local costs. Hartford continues to erode local control through policies such as HB 8002 and its continued support of 8-30g, while towns and school districts are left to pay for unfunded mandates that ultimately fall on local taxpayers.

The problem is not a lack of power. The Democrats already have the power. The problem is a lack of accountability and the absence of different voices at the table. One-party rule has given Connecticut higher costs, more mandates, and less local control. More of the same will not produce a different result.

If we want a more affordable Connecticut, we need balance in state government, not a larger supermajority.

Vote Bolinsky and Foncello for State Representative, Laroche for State Senate, and Fazio for Governor. Connecticut needs balance, accountability, and a new direction.
