Road To Hope 2

DANBURY — The Second Annual Domestic Violence Conference, highlighted by Attorney Jill Davies’ keynote address on Domestic Violence and Poverty, will be held at WSCU’s Student Center on Friday, October 20, from 9 to 3:30 pm. The registration fee is $25 and $15 for students.

Jill Davies, of Greater Hartford Legal Assistance, is co-author of Safety Planning with Battered Women: Complex Lives/Difficult Choices. She works on a local, state, and national level to build comprehensive responses to family violence and enhance advocacy for battered women. Her topic of domestic violence and poverty deals with creating more effective responses for economically poor battered women and their families.

In addition, workshops on the following topics are being offered to conference attendees: “Demonstrating the Myth of ‘The Battered Woman’ Syndrome”; “Identifying Alternatives for Effective Intervention”; “Domestic Violence and Law”; “The Impact of Cultural and Diversity Influences on Domestic Violence”; and “Self-Care in a High Burn-Out Profession.”

The Road to Hope 2 is sponsored by the Greater Danbury Area Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Western Connecticut State University School of Professional Studies. For more information and to register call the Women’s Center at 731-5200.
