A Proposal

To the Editor:

Let me start out by saying I am not an economist, but I think just handing over to the airlines $15 billion is going to do little to help in the recovery efforts to get back to normal. My approach would be to have the airlines offer coach class travel to anywhere in the domestic United States for $25. This would not be valid for travel booked six months in advance or more or for travel outside the United States. The airline would then turn the $25 ticket vouchers in to the federal government for reimbursement for full ticket fare.

This would stimulate travel and also support the other industries affected by the lack of travel such as hotels, restaurants, shopping, taxies, car rentals, and the like.
