A Focused Direction For Newtown

To the Editor:

I am running for the Newtown Legislative Council in District 2 this election year, and my reason for running is to share 29 years of business experience and skills honed by that experience. I want to take my leadership and team-building skills and be part of uniting all our citizens into Team Newtown, and make it “Nicer in Newtown.” To work with others to build a focused direction for our town by taking a fresh look at how we do business in Newtown.

I am a Newtown resident since 1987, born in New York City and grew up on Staten Island, N.Y., where I attended public school. After graduating from Port Richmond High School in 1975 I joined the United States Navy.

While serving in the Navy, I was deployed on the submarines USS Permit SSN 594 and USS Pargo SSN 650, and then USS Fulton AS11 in weapons-related capacities and was discharged with an honorable discharge. While serving on the USS Fulton, I was injured and am now a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Throughout my life I have been continually placed in leadership positions: as a youth I was a patrol leader in Boy Scouts, and in college I served as class representative; professionally I worked as a project manager, group manager, and department director in information technology. In my professional life, I am dedicated and an accomplished business leader with well-developed management skills, and I bring together diverse stakeholders to complete projects within budget and time targets. As a consultant, I assisted Newtown government staff with the first website for the town and the Newtown Police with upgrading the computer system for the year 2000.

My hobbies include fishing and gardening when time allows. My greatest pleasure is spending time with my wife, Donna, and two daughters, Sarah and Jessica. I earned my college degrees, a bachelor of science in business management, a master of science in management and a master of business administration, at Albertus Magnus College and I am currently teaching at the university level. I encourage citizens to contact me at bedwards02@earthlink.net or 203-994-8719 concerning issues
