12-15U Rangers

Newtown Rangers 8 Aspetuck 6: Leading 2-1, the undefeated Rangers broke open a tight game with five fourth-inning runs and held on for their fourth consecutive win under the lights at Fairfield Hills Field on Friday. Entering the fourth, the Rangers had only one hit, Ben Stoller’s line-drive RBI single to center that scored Kyle Wilcox in the first inning. Stoller led off the fourth inning with a hard grounder that was booted by the Aspetuck shortstop and moved to second on a wild pitch. John Hampford slapped a grounder to the right of the pitcher, who snagged it and tried to catch Stoller off second. Stoller raced to third and the throw there was mishandled, scoring Stoller and sending Hampford to second. Hampford took third on another wild pitch and came home when Brandon Cooper hit a deep sacrifice fly to center. Ryan Pavlicek smashed a ball to shortstop that was thrown away for a two-base error. He moved to third on a grounder by Parker Lintz and scored on a wild pitch. Hustling Max Temple reached on an error by the second baseman, and Garrison Buzzanca, Eric Pisani and Ryan Pisani ripped three straight singles. The Pisani brothers each had an RBI. Eric Pisani had his fifth run batted in, tying him with Stoller for the team lead. In the sixth inning, Lintz crushed a line-drive  triple to score Cooper. Jon Hull threw a shutout third inning for the Rangers. He erased a runner at second with a beautiful pickoff move and a nifty tag by shortstop Wilcox. Hull reached twice on walks, boosting his team-leading on-base percentage to .563. Center fielder Hampford made a nice catch to retire the side with two men on in the sixth inning.
