Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Raymond Hoesten, 66, of 46 Underhill Road went to the police station on the morning of September 23 and was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and with second-degree providing a false statement, police report.

Police said the charges stem from their investigation into an August 8 incident at the Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road. Police said that Hoesten allegedly damaged a parked vehicle there following an incident between him and that vehicle’s owner.

Following processing, police released Hoesten on a written promise to appear for arraignment on October 7 in Danbury Superior Court.

High School Lot

Police report that motorist Brianna Liotta, 18, of 28 Shepaug Road, who was driving a 1999 Suzuki ELX sedan about 2:10 pm on September 15 in the Newtown High School parking lot, attempted to turn the Suzuki around, but inadvertently struck a parked vacant 2002 Nissan Pathfinder SUV. Police said they verbally warned Liotta for making an unsafe movement.

Car Vs Tree

About 8:45 am on September 24, motorist Rebecca Castegner, 16, of 16 Yogananda Street was driving a 2004 Acura TL sedan westward on Osborn Hill Road, when she lost control of the vehicle and it struck a tree near 14 Osborn Hill Road, police said.

Police said Castegner reported pain, but refused medical attention. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident. Police said they issued Castegner an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Main Street

About 1:20 pm September 18, motorist Stephanie Spath, 17, of 15 Rockywood Drive, who was driving a 2002 Saab 9-5 sedan northward on Main Street near East Street, was attempting to make a left turn into a parking lot, when the Saab collided with a southbound 2005 Toyota Corolla sedan driven by Frances Cooke, 64, of 11 Saw Mill Ridge Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Spath a written warning for making a restricted turn.

CRV Into Tree

Motorist Erin Sherwood, 21, of Darien was driving a 2006 Honda CRV northward on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Liberty Drive about 5:40 pm September 17, when Sherwood took her attention off the road, police said.

Sherwood drove off the right side of the street, struck some curbing and then hit a small tree, police said. Sherwood was not injured. Police said they verbally warned her for making a restricted turn.

Exit 10 Ramp

State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp at about 2:55 pm September 27.

Motorist Pamela Steele, 46, of Rifton, N.Y., who was driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra, spun out on the roadway and then struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Motorist Margaret DeForest, 59, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, also spun out on the roadway and then struck the Hyundai, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Car Vs Mailboxes

Motorist Barrington Campbell, 51, of Bridgeport was driving a 1990 Lexus LS-400 sedan northward near 89 South Main Street about 11:26 am September 27, when while negotiating a curve in the road, the auto went out of control and struck some mailboxes along the right road shoulder, police said.

Campbell was not injured. Police issued him an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Sandy Hook Collision

Motorist Mike Easter, 25, of 57 Turkey Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck eastward on Route 34, came to a stop at a traffic signal at Route 34’s intersection with Wasserman Way about 7:07 pm September 22, police report.

Motorist Sahana Gupta, 52, of 52 Marlin Road, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla sedan, then turned right from the Newtown High School parking and proceeded eastward on Route 34, striking a trailer hitch affixed to the rear end of the pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Gupta a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Ramp Accident

About 3 pm September 24, motorist Anne Harrigan, 68, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Forester, stopped at a stop sign at the end of eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp, after which the Subaru was hit from behind by a commercial 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck driven by Ramiro Pereira, 54, of Bridgeport, state police said.

There were no injuries. No enforcement information was available.

Railroad Trespass

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Kevin Mills, 21, of Bethel went to the Newtown police station on the afternoon of September 28 and turned himself over to police who charged him with failure to respond to an infraction stemming from an original charge of trespassing on railroad property.

Police said the railroad trespassing incident occurred in June 2005.

After processing, police released Mills on $136 bail for an October 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

Police report that they saw motorist Brian Haag, 37, of 43 Riverside Road driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat eastward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, near Wendover Road, about 12:30 pm September 28.

Police said the Volkswagen crossed over into the westbound lane and then went off the westbound road shoulder, striking a curbside mailbox and coming to rest off the street.

After investigating the incident, police charged Haag with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and making a restricted turn.

After processing the arrest, police released Haag on $50 bail for an October 13 court appearance.

Suzuki Hits Audi

About 5:26 pm September 23, motorist Christine Devellis, 46, of 44 Key Rock Road, who was driving a 2002 Audi A-6 sedan southward on South Main Street, stopped and was preparing to make a left turn onto Simm Lane, police said.

Southbound motorist Julie Genz, 46, of 13 Gray’s Plain Road, who was driving a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV, then struck the rear end of the Audi, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Genz a written warning for following too closely.

 

Chrysler Crash

Motorist Richard Gaines, 58, of Black Bridge Road, who was driving a 2002 Chrysler sedan near 73 Walnut Tree Hill Road about 6 pm September 22, drove off the southbound road shoulder and collided with a tree stump, police said. Neither Gaines, nor a passenger, were injured, police said.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Dennis Rinaldi, 22, of New Milford turned himself over to police at the police station about 10:45 pm September 29 and was charged with breach of peace, police report.

Police said the arrest stems from an April incident that occurred at Hot Shots Grille, Restaurant & Tap Room at 130 Mt Pleasant Road. Police released Rinaldi on $1,000 bail for an October 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Sweatshirt

About 4 pm September 28, a button-down sweatshirt with the word “Seasons” embroidered on a sleeve was found near 21 Saw Mill Road, according to police. The owner should contact Officer Richard Monckton at the police station to claim the garment; telephone 426-5841.

Burglary

Police report that a burglary occurred at Newtown Car Wash at 2 Simm Lane sometime between 4:17 and 4:53 am on September 29. An office window was smashed. Some unknown person or persons entered the building. It is unclear if any items were stolen.

Police categorized the incident as third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief. Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact Officer Steve Borges at the police station; telephone 426-5841.

VW Hits Tree

Police report that on the morning of September 20, motorist Leo Gallagher, 48, of 58 Hilldale Drive, who was driving a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta coupe southward on Riverside Road near its intersection with Bancroft Road, went off the right road shoulder of Riverside Road and struck a tree.

The vehicle received heavy damage, police said. Police issued Gallagher an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Honda Vs Jeep

About 11:11 am on September 26, motorist Robert Laskay, 62, of 57 Dodgingtown Road was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee SUV northward on South Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Lisa O’Connor, 42, of 37 Sugar Street, who was driving a 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan, was gradually attempting to make a left turn from a stop sign on Peck’s Lane onto southbound South Main Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. Police said there were no injuries.

Police issued O’Connor a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign. Police issued Laskay a written warning for failure to carry a vehicle registration.&

VW Vs Deer

Motorist Richard Barillari, 28, of 8 Mile Hill Road South was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat sedan westward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Bennetts Bridge Road, about 3 pm September 29, when a deer ran out onto the road in front of the auto, police report. The deer and the Volkswagen collided. The deer ran off. Barillari was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
