To the Editor:

Newtown Hook & Ladder held their 8th Annual Firehouse Ride on September 30. Despite a raw, chilly day our loyal supporters braved the weather and set off on their 50-mile escorted ride with smiles and a special blessing by Monsignor Bob Weiss. They were welcomed back with a hot buffet of food including a pig roast by Creative Catering, warm spiked cider, entertainment by John Voket, live music by Midnight Rodeo, and a roasting bonfire.

The Firehouse Ride is our largest fundraiser, averaging nearly 100 bikes each year. This year, we had nearly 75 riders and passengers; we served 150 meals to our hungry guests; and gave away lots of raffle prizes, including a 50/50 cash prize raffle. We couldn't do this without the help of our generous sponsors. We thank Dan from Smokey Mountain Chew, The law offices of James O. Gaston, The Borough of Newtown, Jim and Gary (The Gopher Guys), Oak Street Design & Construction, the Pendergast Family, JP Maguire, Newtown Savings Bank, and Durkin's Tent Rentals for their continued support and contributions to the firehouse.

The ride this year was dedicated to Lee W. Glover, Sr, a Life Member since 1976, honored with a crystal plaque recognizing our appreciation of his dedication to the company - joining Hook & Ladder in 1945 at the age of 16, becoming third asstistant chief in 1952 after returning from service in the US Army. He was chief from 1954 to 1974, then retired. He still proudly supports the company today. Thank you, Lee, for being such a fine influence.

We also thank all the dedicated volunteers who make this ride as successful and pleasurable as it is. For more information visit us on Facebook or at www.firehouseride.com.

Thank you to everyone involved!
