Pete Barnes of Newtown died unexpectedly September 27, in his favorite chair at his home that he had built with his wife, Carol.

Mr Barnes was loved by all those who knew him. He was a devoted husband of 35 years to his wife, Carol; beloved father to his son, Travis; loyal friend to many; and was young at heart, genuine, gracious, and always grateful for all life had afforded him.

His family was originally from Massachusetts and came south to raise the family in Trumbull. He was never far away from his roots or his friends.

Mr Barnes was a patriot, proud of his country and his service in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1969. He was also a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. Mr Barnes's career started as an artist who honed his skills in the union as an ironworker, then turned to smaller contracting positions working as a craftsman on jobs with private clients and friends. He was an avid golfer and will be missed on the links by his buddies.

In addition to his wife and son; a sister, Sue Barnes Coyne; two brothers, Steve and Donald Barnes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, that gave him great joy throughout his life, survive him.

His brothers Charles "Rick" and Jeff Barnes predeceased him.

The memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 7, at 1 pm, at Pete and Carol's home.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Officer Adam James and the Newtown Police Department for their support and kindness during this tragic time.
