Lucille Clay

Lucille Yvonne Watson Hartschuh Clay was born on June 4, 1923, and passed away peacefully on September 30, 2019, at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, N.C., at age 96.

Lucille was born in Fostoria, Ohio, to the late Leta (Frankenfield) and the late Lloyd Watson. Leta later married the late H. Forrest Hartschuh, whom Lucille lovingly referred to as her beloved “Daddy.”

She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Clarence Henry “Hank” Clay.

Lucille is survived by her two daughters, Carol Hoehn and her husband, William Hoehn, of Fish Creek, Wis., and Patti Clay of Hendersonville, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Anna Brandt of Hendersonville, N.C.

Lucille graduated from Sycamore High School in Sycamore, Ohio, and was also a graduate of a cosmetology school in Jackson, Miss. She owned Garden Village Beauty Salon in Westfield, Ind., until her retirement and then continued to work as a beautician for an assisted living facility in Connecticut before retiring a second time at age 80. She was always happiest when she was helping others. Lucille moved to Hendersonville, N.C., in 2017 and resided at Brookdale East. She was an avid proponent of healthy living and functional medicine. Lucille was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a Worthy Matron of the Chapter in Westfield, Ind. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

The family will hold a celebration of life on a later date.

Memorials may be made for the Elizabeth House in honor of Lucille Clay at Four Seasons Foundation, 221 North Main Street, Hendersonville NC 28792.
