Appreciative Gallery Owners

To the Editor:

On September 27, a horrific accident occurred directly in front of our gallery and custom framing shop located at 83 South Main Street.

Despite the intensity of the flames and accompanying heat, our artwork inventory was spared, due to the astute consideration of, we learned later, the Newtown Fire Department, captained by Dave Oberg. They entered our building and had the foresight to remove thousands of dollars worth of art from the front of the building to the rear before they hosed it down throughout the length of the blaze. John and I would like to sincerely thank those men for their actions. Without them, our business of 18 years would have been severely impacted, and we would not have been able to continue to provide a quality service to our many loyal customers.

The DEP is continuing its work of cleanup and diagnostic testing of the oil leakage and soil contamination, and hopefully, will be out of our driveway by the end of the week. An inconvenience, to say the least. But, as the fire department can attest, and thankfully so, better safe than sorry! Thank you so much!
