Walk In Our Footsteps
Walk In Our Footsteps
DANBURY â The Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury, along with the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the 17 other domestic violence shelter programs in Connecticut, will mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October with the annual âWalk in Our Footstepsâ event. For the seventh year âWalk in Our Footstepsâ will increase awareness about domestic violence and its impact on Connecticutâs children. The event will take place on Friday, October 3, at Bushnell Park in Hartford from 11 am to 2 pm. (Rain date is Tuesday, October 7.)
In Connecticut last year 1,174 children fled with their mothers to the safety of domestic violence shelters. At the 2003 âWalk in Our Footstepsâ they will be represented by 1,174 pairs of shoes, including 35 pairs representing the children who stayed at Elizabeth House, the Womenâs Center shelter for battered women and their children.
Children are often the silent victims of domestic violence. âWalk in Our Footstepsâ is intended to give them voice. In addition to this silent display, The Clothesline Project and T-shirts created by adults and children who have been affected by domestic violence will be displayed. Child Advocates from the Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury will be available to answer questions.
