Mortimer William Berliner

Mortimer William Berliner of Trumbull and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died October 1. He was the beloved husband for 63 years of Janice Rosenfeld Berliner.

His sons and spouses, James Berliner and Shirley of Newtown, Edward Berliner and Barbara of New Fairfield, Andrew Berliner and Maureen of Weston; and ten grandchildren survive Mr Berliner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda and Herbert Berliner.

Mr Berliner was a graduate of Bronx High School of Science, Seton Hall University, and holder of the CPCU designation.

He served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Locally, he volunteered his time as the chairman of the Monroe Police Commission, served on the Land Acquisition Committee where he was instrumental in purchasing land for Chalk Hill Middle School and Fawn Hollow Elementary School in Monroe. He was a member of the Exchange Club, and helped in the construction of the former Monroe library.

 Mr Berliner was the founder of Berliner-Gelfand Insurance agency.

Funeral services will take place at The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, Sunday, October 5, at 10 am, followed by interment at the B'nai Israel Cemetery, 191 Kings Highway in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York NY 10016.
