Newtown Youth Cheer kicked off its competition season in impressive fashion on Saturday, September 26 at the Western Fun Competition held at Torrington High School. All four Newtown competition cheer teams earned first place in their respective divisions, an exciting start to the season for the Nighthawks. In addition to their first-place finishes, the D8 and D14 teams were each named Grand Champions of their age groups.

The results were a wonderful reflection of the hard work, dedication, teamwork, and determination the athletes and coaches have put into preparing for the competition season. All four teams represented Newtown and the Nighthawks with tremendous pride.

Newtown Youth Cheer now looks ahead to two exciting weeks of competition, including the Local Competition on Saturday, October 10, at Fairfield Warde High School.

Before heading to Locals, Newtown Youth Cheer invites the community to come out and support its athletes at the annual Friends & Family Night on Thursday, October 8, on NYA turf at 8 pm. The event is free and open to the community.

All four competition teams will perform their complete competition routines for the final time before taking the floor at Locals. They will also be joined by Newtown Youth Cheer’s youngest cheerleaders, the Hawklings, who will have an opportunity to show family, friends, and the community what they have been working on this season.

Friends & Family Night is a great opportunity for the Newtown community to come together, cheer on these hardworking athletes, and send the Nighthawks off to competition with plenty of hometown support.
