Dr Walter           Nudenberg

Dr Walter Nudenberg, 98, died September 22. He was born in Newark, N.J., January 6, 1914.

He and his late wife, Edith, resided in Newtown since 1972.

Dr Nudenberg received his Doctorate of Chemistry at the University of Chicago in the late 1930s. As part of the World War II effort, he worked at the University of Chicago on the synthetic rubber project, and associated projects. In 1956 he moved his work from the public academic sector to the chemical business industry. In August 2011, at the age of 97, he retired from Chemtura. In September 2011 the Nudenberg-Wheeler Technology Center in Naugatuck was named in his honor.

Dr Nudenberg was a modest yet outstanding professional contributor to the “Greatest Generation.” His promotion and recognition of both subordinates and peers shall always be fondly remembered.

Two sons, Lazer Nudenberg of Bend, Ore., and Richard Nudenberg of Tucson, Ariz.; and his great-grandson, Cullen McMenamin, also of Tucson, survive Mr Nudenberg. The Nudenberg’s first son, David, was killed in action in Vietnam during 1970. A granddaughter, Courtney Nudenberg, also predeceased him.

A memorial service took place October 3, in the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
