To the Editor:

We have suffered almost four years under a federal administration, directed by a president who, from the start, has proven unwilling to foster unity or even consensus in the national population he is supposed to serve. His overweening self-interest is such that he fires any person in any agency who refuses to bend the knee to his position on any issue. He discredits, using frequent deceit, any persons (including the media) who reveal deliberate erroneous representations he makes in order to justify his domestic policies — whether economic, environmental, or law and order.

Let us contemplate, with grief and anxiety:

The horrible losses occurring as our western states remain in flames; the misery of families who are related to over 200,000 perished souls among us, due to COVID; the imperiled helplessness of refugee thousands incarcerated now for years in a sordid limbo of concentration camps; the relentless erosion of our civil institutions meant to protect and govern with justice; the deliberate inflaming of bigotry and class warfare; and mendacity at every level, bent upon ensnaring the gullible and paranoid, but gratifying those who profit by it.

And now what?
