Newtown High School’s student representatives for the Board of Education for the 2021–22 school year are Matt Irving and Christina Savo.

For each Board of Education regular meeting the students are expected to share reports and updates about happenings at the high school. Their participation at meetings officially began on September 21.

While Matt could not attend the meeting, Christina delivered the full report, which highlighted the school year’s first home football game, held on September 10. The game was also covered by The Newtown Bee and coverage is available to read online at newtownbee.com/09102021/nighthawk-football-team-returns-in-winning-form.

“Newtown won against Pomperaug with a final score of 42-17,” Christina reported.

Soccer games have also been held, both at NHS and at other schools, according to the student representative report.

“There have also been many first club meetings,” Christina continued, adding that Unified Sports had its first partner meeting after school on September 15 and the HAWKS Honor Association is currently accepting student applications.

Other groups were also starting to hold first meetings and Christina said student portraits for the yearbook were underway that week.

“Thank you very much for having me,” said Christina at the end of the report.

Board of Education Chair Michelle Embree Ku said, “We appreciate you bringing your report of the high school to us. Thank you very much.”
