Helen S. Belz

Enjoyed Life Fully

Helen S. Belz, 83, of Lockwood Lodge, Newtown, formerly of Watertown, died September 29 at Danbury hospital after a brief illness. Mrs Belz was born May 18, 1923, in Waterbury, the daughter of John and Helena (Maher) Shields. She was the widow of Edward Anthony Belz.

Among her survivors are her son, Edward J. Belz and his wife, Sorine, of Sandy Hook; her grandson, Scott Belz; granddaughter, Lynn (Belz) Spizowski and her husband, Nick.

A lifelong resident of Watertown, Mrs Belz graduated from St John’s Grammar School in Watertown and Watertown High School. She received her associate’s degree in secretarial science from Post College in Waterbury and worked as a secretary to the superintendent of schools in Watertown until her retirement. She was a member of St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Watertown and enjoyed reading and watching classic movies. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and admired pop culture. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and will always be remembered as a dedicated wife, for her enjoyment of living the moment, and her witty sense of humor.

Funeral services for Mrs Belz were held October 4 at St John the Evangelist Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial followed in St James Cemetery, Watertown.

There are no calling hours.

The O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
