To the Editor:

On behalf of Newtown Hook & Ladder, the officers and members, we would like to thank everyone that participated in this year’s Open House event on October 1.

Though the forecast for the day was dreary and wet, our event was far from it. A car being cut apart, K9s demonstrating their variety of tasks and kids testing their skills in our Firefighter Training Course were some of the stations we offered. It was wonderful to see so many community members come out and try out our many attractions.

All Newtown Fire Departments are 100% volunteer. Events such as these are our opportunity to raise money for various projects, training, equipment and supplies. In addition, we enjoy educating the community on what we do and love to demonstrate our skills.

This year’s event could not have been possible without support from our community.

Additionally, we would like to extend a “Thank You” to our fellow first responders who joined us to put on this event: Connecticut State Police (Troop A, ESU, FEIU and K9 Unit), Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Newtown Police Department, Newtown Police Cadets and The Exceptional Sidekick.
