Elaine (Smith) Renjilian of Newtown passed away on September 30 at the age of 84.

Born on January 16, 1942, Elaine was the beloved wife of John Renjilian for 58 years, and a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She dedicated her life to raising their three children and caring for her husband, always putting her family at the heart of everything she did.

Elaine will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jennifer Morris (Steve), Jason Renjilian (Ellen), and Jodie Abramson (Donald); as well as her cherished grandchildren, Jennifer’s children, Jared and Dylan; Jason’s children, Emalee and Justine; and Jodie’s children, Aaron and Ian.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Stella Smith, and her brother, David.

After graduating from John Jay High School and Rider College, Elaine worked as a secretary and medical transcriptionist for many years.

Elaine found great joy in the simple pleasures of life — especially spending time with her grandchildren, traveling with her friends, and tending to her gardens, which were true works of art. She loved taking her grandchildren to The Pleasance, hosting them for sleepovers, and making them feel special. She also treasured her annual trips to the Jersey Shore with her college friends. Her gardens brought endless joy to everyone who saw them. She leaves behind a legacy of love, beautiful memories, and devotion to her family that will be forever cherished by her family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, October 11, from 1 to 4 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown.

While flowers are welcome, the family suggests honoring Elaine’s memory with a memorial contribution to either the Newtown Animal Control Shelter or the Cure Alzheimer's Fund.
