MONROE – A golf outing benefiting the family of Steve Furtenbacher will be held Thursday, October 20, at Whitney Farms Golf Club in Monroe.

The outing includes lunch, 18 holes of golf, appetizers and dinner. The day will include prizes and raffles and the cost is $150 per person. Tee off is slated for 11:30 am.

The event is being organized by Newtown resident Eric Poupon for the benefit of his sister Danielle’s family. Recently, a near fatal motorcycle accident left her husband, Steve, paralyzed from the chest down and without the use of his hands.

Even with insurance, the Furtenbachers have already incurred substantial financial costs. First year expenses for quadriplegics average $470,833, according to the University of Alabama at Birmingham National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center.

Long term medical and home care will prove to be the toughest struggle and Poupon is looking to provide support through various yearly fundraising events.

The event is open to the public. Anyone interested can contact Eric or Mary Poupon at 270-7322 or send donations to 50 Taunton Hill Road, Newtown, 06470.
