Manville Fritjof Hendrickson

Turnstile Manufacturer

Manville Fritjof “Jof” Hendrickson, 96, died peacefully at his home in Rye, N.Y., September 14, of natural causes. He was born August 16, 1915, in St Paul, Minn.

Four children, including Gary Hendrickson of Newtown, 14 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren survive Mr Hendrickson.

He was happily married to Alma “Sunny” Trubenbach Hendrickson from 1941 until her death in 1952, and had two children, Jill and Gary. In 1954 he married Mary Barrett Hendrickson, to whom he was married until her death in 2003, having two children, Merily and Ed.

He served in the US Army at the Pentagon in military intelligence during World War II and the Korean War.

Both before and after his military service he worked for and then ran Perey Turnstiles, which made mechanical turnstiles, until his retirement in 1999. The company’s turnstiles were used, among other places, throughout the New York City MTA subway system and remain in use on many subway exits. He was very proud of his work with St Vincent’s Hospital, Westchester, where he was a member and chairman of the board of trustees in the 1970s.

Mr Hendrickson was an active member of the Westchester Country Club, the Princeton Club of New York, and the Metropolitan Club of New York. He was active with the Association of Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and the Association of the Knights of Malta.

He had a long and happy life, and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
