Newtown’s

Big Weekend

To the Editor:

Two events await us this weekend — both designed for our pleasure and to celebrate our community. On Saturday, the 8th of October, the village of Sandy Hook will offer the first-ever Passport to Sandy Hook. Come visit the more than 20 businesses offering everything from great eating to great fashion, toys, photography, hair salons, and more! There will be live music, a bounce house, prizes, and all-around fun! And don’t forget to bring a donation for the Faith Food Pantry to support the Stuff the Truck effort.

And then on Sunday, the 9th of October, comes our long-awaited “Labor Day” Parade, delayed but not defeated by Tropical Storm Irene. That event kicks off at 2 pm on Sunday with a proud march down Main Street, across Glover, and Queen. This is the 50th anniversary of the parade. Imagine our predecessors celebrating their pride in our community through the decades, starting in 1961. Let’s gather together again this Sunday to cheer for our town, our organizations, our volunteers, our churches and schools, and all our people.
