Register Now For Newtwon Youth Basketball
Register Now For Newtwon Youth Basketball
Newtown Youth Basketball Association (NYBA) is reminding all those interested in playing youth basketball this season that now is the time to register. All NYBA registrations must be completed on-line.
Any registrations (except for Senior League and Hoopsters) received after October 15 will incur a $25 late fee. NYBA offers basketball programs for children (both boys and girls) ranging from kindergarten through senior year in high school. Clinics are offered for kindergartners and first graders, with instructional to increasingly competitive leagues offered for second grade through eighth grade. The popular Senior League program is available to young men and women who are currently freshmen through seniors in high school.
NYBA also supports the Hoopsters program. Hoopster is a noncompetitive adaptive program designed for children with special needs. With the help of coaches, assistants, and some parental participation, Hoopsters offers a safe, judgment-free environment where the focus is on ensuring the children have fun. Those wishing more information on the program can contact Carmen MacLeod at Carmen.macleod@yahoo.com.
To register for any of these programs go to the NYBA website, www.Newtownyouthbasketball.org and click on the Register Online listing in the menu on the left hand side. Follow the instructions.
A preseason evaluation is conducted for all players from fourth grade through eighth grade to ensure a fair team draft process. This year evaluations begin on Monday, October 11, and will take place in the evenings at the Newtown Youth Academy. Fourth and sixth grade boysâ evaluations will be held that evening. Evaluations for fourth grade girls will be on Wednesday, October 13, as will fifth grade boys. Fifth and sixth grade girls will have their evaluations on Tuesday, October 12, as will seventh and eighth grade girls. Seventh grade boys evaluations will be on Thursday, October 14, with eighth grade boys evaluations taking place on Friday, October 15.
Please confirm the specific time for your childâs evaluation by checking the NYBA website. Click on Program Info and Schedules on the left hand menu, and then Dates and Times. Some evaluations may run concurrently as multiple courts at Newtown Youth Academy will be used. In some divisions, evaluation time is dependent on the first letter of their last name so please take note of that detail. Please arrive at the gym 15 minutes prior to the evaluation start time to allow for check-in. Questions may be e-mailed to Vin Harkins at vinharkins@aol.com.
