Loving Mother and Grandmother

Marie (Pizzano) Culotta, age 92, formerly of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 6, at Danbury Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Dr John T. Culotta, retired Waterbury dentist.

Born on June 9, 1929, in Orange, N.J., Marie was the daughter of the late Anthony and Frances (Blum) Pizzano. Marie graduated from Saints Peter and Paul Grammar School and from Sacred Heart High School. She met John in high school and they were married for 64 years.

The couple moved back to Waterbury where Dr Culotta opened his private dental practice. Marie worked side-by-side with her husband, as the office manager and receptionist of the practice for over 40 years, retiring in 1999.

Marie was involved in many social events and committees. Her hobbies included knitting and reading, but she was happiest when spending time with her family.

Marie is survived by her beloved daughter, Beth Adams, and her husband, Glen; her cherished grandchildren, Olivia Adams, Lauren Adams, and Brendan Adams, all of Newtown; and her brothers, Anthony “Bill” Pizzano and his wife, Marie, of Hickory, N.C., Robert Pizzano and his wife, Carolyn, of Falls Church, Va., and James Pizzano and his wife, Sandie, of Burleson, Texas. She also leaves several generations of nieces and nephews as well as many very special cousins and friends.

Marie’s funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 11, at noon at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Calling hours will be held at the church from 10:30 am am to noon. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
