Sentimenti Celebrates Creativity With Fall-Themed Window Art, Other Endeavors

Two Newtown High School Art Honor Society students are painting original fall-themed art on Sentimenti's storefront window.
Ari Tersigni-Bjugan and Sarah Tashjian started working on the project for the local artisan boutique and secondhand antique and vintage shop on Queen Street on Friday, September 25.
Tashjian and Tersigni-Bjugan will also use chalk to draw wings on the store’s southern-facing exterior wall. The hope is passersby will stand in front of the wings and take photos.
Sentimenti owner Sandra Rasmussen said the students will write “Welcome to Newtown” or “It’s Nicer in Newtown” beside the wings to support Newtown’s designation as a state-recognized Cultural District earlier this year.
That is far from the only recent development at Sentimenti. Rasmussen installed a Free Little Library (LFL) outside her boutique earlier this summer. She was inspired by Little Free Library, the Minnesota-based nonprofit organization that inspires people to read through volunteer-led book-exchange boxes.
The Queen Street LFL is the newest addition to the growing network within town that already includes locations at Dickinson Park, Fairfield Hills, Treadwell Park, FAITH Food Pantry, and other locations.
In collaboration with Newtown resident Sheila Darling, Rasmussen also installed a Little Free Art Gallery in front of Sentimenti two weeks ago.
The art gallery has a similar concept to the Little Free Library, except this one offers small pieces of art people can leave and/or take.
Darling had originally planned to place the art offering at Fairfield Hills but, according to Rasmussen, spotted the recently-installed Little Free Library outside Sentimenti and thought the two would complement each other well.
