Julena Steinheider Duncombe

Julena Steinheider Duncombe, 91, of Austin, Texas, died September 13. She was born September 21, 1911, in Dorchester, Neb. She was the daughter-in-law of the late Frederic and Helen Olmstead Duncombe of Newtown.

Mrs Duncombe was a 1932 graduate of Doane College, Crete, Neb., and taught school from then until 1945, when she started a 28-year career as mathematician and astronomer at the US Naval Observatory.

She was a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a member of the American Astronomical Society, the Division of Dynamical Astronomy, and the Institute of Navigation.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raynor Lockwood Duncombe; stepson Raynor Bailey Duncombe and wife, Janice, of Middleburg, N.Y.; grandchildren Raynor Luccioni Duncombe and wife, Heidi, of Charlotte, N.C., and Christina Luccioni Duncombe of Williamsburg, Va.

A short Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 11, at 11 am, in the Newtown Village Cemetery for the interment of ashes.
