Medical Town Meetings To Discuss Childhood

DANBURY ââ âChildhood Obesity: A Growing Epidemicâ is the topic for discussion at the first of three Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meetings during the month of October. The first program takes place Tuesday, October 14, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at Danbury Hospitalâs auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue.
Featured speakers will be Jack S.C. Fong, MD, attending physician and chairman, Danbury Hospital Department of Pediatrics, and a physician member of the Danbury Office of Physician Services; Elizabeth Bradley, MD, attending physician, Danbury Hospital Department of Medicine, Section of Internal Medicine, a physician member of the Danbury Office of Physician Services, and a practicing internist at Primary Care of Southbury; Janet Hiser, chief clinical dietitian in the Danbury Hospital Food and Nutrition Department; and Michele Smallidge, a registered dietitian who is an exercise physiologist at The Marcus Cardiac Rehabilitation Center at Danbury Hospital.
They will discuss the complications associated with childhood obesity and strategies to counteract this growing problem. Topics to be addressed include the medical implications associated with childhood obesity, nutritional concerns, and ways to promote increased physical activity.
A second Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meeting, âAll About Vein Care: New Techniques in the Treatment of Vein Disorders,â will be conducted on Tuesday, October 21, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at the hospital auditorium.
Alan Dietzek, MD, Danbury Hospitalâs chief of vascular surgery and director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory at Danbury Hospital, will address the nonsurgical and minimally invasive surgical options available in treating diseases of the veins.
Dr Dietzek also is an attending physician in the Danbury Hospital Department of Surgery, Section of Vascular Surgery, and a physician member of the Danbury Office of Physician Services, PC.
A third Medical Town Meeting on Tuesday, October 28, will discuss âBreast Care for a Lifetime: What Every Woman Needs to Know.â Featured physician speakers from the Danbury Hospital Breast Tumor Board will address the latest medical and surgical advances in the treatment of breast cancer. The program also takes place from 7 to 8:30 pm at the hospitalâs auditorium.
Ample time will be provided for audience questions. Medical Town Meetings are free and open to the public. No RSVP is required. Park free in the Blue visitorâs parking lot, Hospital Avenue entrance.
On Wednesday, October 22, a mammography screening will be conducted at Danbury Diagnostic Imaging, 20 Germantown Road in Danbury. Pre-registration is required and can be made by calling 797-7919. Ideal mammography screening candidates are women age 40 and older who have no personal history of breast cancer, have not had a mammogram within the last three years, are new to the area and have not accessed local health care services.
