By Andrew Gorosko
Police are investigating an early morning incident on October 2, in which someone fired at least one round from a shotgun into a window on a house on Huntingtown Road.
Police said the fired shotgun round damaged the window, an interior wall, and a painting inside the house. A damage estimate was not available.
None of the four people inside the house at 96 Huntingtown Road were injured, police said. The people were not in the room whose window was shattered by shotgun fire, police said.
The incident occurred sometime between 3 and 3:30 am, police said. Police learned of the incident from the victim later that morning.
The window through which the shotgun blast entered the house is on the second story of the building. The house stands about 50 feet from Huntingtown Road.
Police said they think the shotgun was fired from Huntingtown Road.
Detective Sergeant John Cole said police are investigating the incident to learn who fired the shotgun. Police categorized the incident as the âunlawful discharge of a firearm.âÂ
Police did not receive any other reports of such gunfire elsewhere on that morning, Det Sgt Cole said.
âThe public has to help us with this,â Det Sgt Cole said of policeâs need for information in the case. âSomeone is going to have to help us with this one,â he added. Such incidents are rare locally, he said.
There is no apparent motive for the incident, he said. There are no suspects in the case, he said.
Police asked anyone with information on the incident to contact police patrol Officer David Kullgren by e-mail at david.kullgren@newtown-ct.gov, or by telephone at 426-5841 or 270-8888.
