Harvest Heyday:

Pumpkins & Pies At Paproski’s

Just how good is your apple pie? Can you create the best looking carved pumpkin in town?

Bakers and families (or individuals, or couples) are all invited to Newtown Junior Women’s Club’s “Harvest Heyday,” an event to take place Saturday, October 20, in the cornfield of Castle Hill Farm on Sugar Lane.

The full event will run from 1 to 4 pm. There will be face painting and refreshments.

A Pie Bake-Off will begin with entrants paying a $5 entry fee and dropping off their fresh baked pies, which must be “fall harvest” themed, between 1 and 2 pm. Judges will be from Sal e Pepe Restaurant, Andrea’s Pastry Shop, and Aquarian Caterers, and winners will be announced at 3 pm.

A pumpkin carving contest will run from 2 to 4. There is a $10 entry fee per family, which includes one pumpkin. Additional pumpkins will be $5 each. Contestants will need to bring their own carving tools.

Winners will be announced at 4 pm.

The farm’s corn maze will also be well into its run for the season. The farm charges a separate fee for those who wish to try working their way through the maze, which this year features a swirling abstract design.
