uThe top-ranked Wake Forest University menâs soccer team lost a 2-0 halftime lead against No. 9 Virginia Tech and had to settle for its second consecutive draw. The Demon Deacons moved to 7-0-2 overall and 2-0-1 in the ACC. Marcus Tracy (NHS â05) has two goals and four assists on the season.

uWins over Canisius (2-1) and Niagara (6-0) have pushed the Fairfield University womenâs soccer team to 6-5-1 overall, 2-0-0 in the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Casey Frobey (NHS â06) scored a goal in both wins and now has a team-high five on the season.

uSophomore Abigail Atkinson (NHS â06) was a double-winner as the Bucknell University womenâs swimming & diving team opened the season with a non-scored dual meet against the University of Maryland at Baltimore County. Atkinson claimed the top spots in both the 100- and 200-yard backstroke with times of 1:01.16 and 2:09.77, respectively. The Bison will be back in action on Saturday, October 27, for the annual Blue vs. Orange meet. The squad will then take to the road for a dual against Duquesne on November 3.

uThe Manhattan College womenâs soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to five games with a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Loyola College and a 1-0 win over Rider. Alex Konneker (NHS, â06) has a goal, scored in a 1-1 double-overtime draw with Fordham University on September 9.

uThe No. 12 Montclair State University menâs soccer team blanked Eastern University, 1-0, to improve to 11-1-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Brian Miles (NHS â05) has a goal and five assists for the Red Hawks.

uAfter a 2-0 win over Franklin & Marshall, the Gettysburg College womenâs soccer team has dropped three in a row to fall to 3-9-0 on the year. Tara Gaston (NHS â06) has started all 12 games for the Lady Bullets.

uThe Quinnipiac University womenâs soccer team improved to 8-2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NEC with a 2-1 win over Central Connecticut State University last weekend. Kyla Miles (NHS â07) has appeared in nine games, starting five, for the âCats and has registered one assist in 650 minutes of field action.

uA 3-2 win over Keuka College at the Mid-Coast Volleyball Invitational allowed the Emmanuel College womenâs volleyball team to snap a 10-match losing streak. Diana Grimaldi (NHSâ 06) has registered 33 kills with a team-high 172 assists, eight service aces, 63 digs and 14 blocks.

uMarc Doherty (NHS â06) has appeared in four games, starting two, for the University of South Florida menâs soccer team, which is now 7-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Big East Conference.

uStephanie Logan (NHS â04) was named to the Quinnipiac Invitational All-Tournament Team even as the Quinnipiac womenâs volleyball team fell to 1-20 overall with a 32-30, 30-20, 30-24 loss to St. Peterâs College. Logan has a team-high 123 kills in 21 matches with a team-high 21 service aces, 58 digs and a team-high 32 blocks. The Lady Bobcats were at Iona on Wednesday and will be at Sacred Heart on Saturday, October 20, before hosting Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, October 21, at home.

Here is how Wilton's elected officials supported their budget, From the Wilton Paper: Please join us at the Annual Town Meeting (ATM) on Tuesday, May 6 and cast your vote on the Board of Selectmen and Board of Education budgets, as well as the mill rate and bonding referendums — collectively known as the ‘ATM Recommendations’. These recommendations reflect our community’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, outstanding education, and effective town services.

Says Referendum Process ‘Lacking Leadership’

The voters certainly spoke — and I respect the outcome — but let’s not forget that a “majority” doesn’t mean everyone agreed. Many of us are deeply concerned about the rising cost of living here. Supporting schools and services is important, but so is ensuring that residents can afford to stay in the town they love. We all want Newtown to be a great place to live, but lately, it’s starting to feel less like “Nicer in Newtown” and more like “More Expensive in Newtown.” That’s not sustainable, and it’s not a criticism of the town itself — it’s a call for responsible budgeting and long-term planning that doesn’t rely on tax increases year after year. I hope future decisions will reflect not just the desire to maintain services, but also the need to ease the financial burden on residents.

Budget, Capital Projects Pass: Officials Respond

I appreciate the passion behind this message, and I absolutely understand the desire to invest in our town. That said, I voted no — not because I don't care about Newtown, but because I do. Fiscal responsibility is not about ignoring problems, it’s about making sure we address them in a sustainable and transparent way. It’s frustrating to feel like every year there’s a new “urgent” reason to raise taxes, with little serious effort to curb spending or prioritize needs. I worry this just sets the stage for another round of increases next year. That doesn't mean I’m against education, safety, or our town’s future — it means I believe in accountability and in asking tough questions about how our money is managed. Voting no wasn't a rejection of Newtown — it was a call for more thoughtful, balanced leadership. I hope future conversations can include all perspectives, not just those willing to write a bigger check.

The Voters Chose Newtown

The voters spoke, loud and clear that they support our schools and municipal services. The majority vote was a mandate to keep delivering well rated education services and keep it" Nicer in Newtown."
