Volleyball Team Closes Out Victories In Minimum Three Sets

In the process of extending its winning streak to five matches, Newtown High School’s volleyball team made it four straight decided in the minimum three sets. The Nighthawks, after blanking Bunnell of Stratford on October 4, took care of business against Bethel two days later, then bested visiting Notre Dame 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-17) on October 8, and went on the road to defeat New Milford 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 26-24) on October 12.

Against Notre Dame, Newtown racked up 15 aces led by a trio each from Amaro Beard-Galati, Ella Stubbs, and Zosia Teraskiewicz.

Keyera Smith and Teraskiewicz both logged nine kills, Beard-Galati had six, and Stubbs five.

Beard-Galati was a presence at the net not only on offense, but on defense with three blocks. Shannon Muckell had 18 assists, and Haley Austermann had 16 assists.

Against New Milford, Grace Miller started her first match since the season opener and contributed an ace, four kills, and a dig.

Newtown had 15 aces as a team, led by four each from Chloe O’Connell and Teraskiewicz and three from Smith. Muckell added two and Bella Rio had one.

Smith racked up 13 of Newtown’s 34 kills; Delia Clouden had nine. O’Connell had nine digs. Muckell logged 20 assists.
