The Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard achieved its highest score of the season at Norwalk High School on October 9.

The NHS Marching Nighthawks performed its 2021 show, Everest, and brought home more first place hardware. The show evolves throughout the season, and the crowd in Norwalk was treated to a full musical run. Everest is a story of human struggle and explores the ambitions, desires, tribulations, and ultimately triumphs that “climbers” face on their way to the summit.

The Newtown community will have its chance to catch Everest this Saturday, October 16, when the Nighthawks host the Annual Joseph P. Grasso Festival at NHS, 12 Berkshire Road.

Gates open at 5 pm, performances begin at 6 pm and Newtown performs at 8:30 p.m. Fifteen seniors will be recognized at the end of the performance.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $7 for children. Reed Intermediate and Newtown Middle School students may use the voucher e-mailed recently to parents for a $2 discount.

During the event, the Marching Band & Guard also announced it will pay tribute to Joseph Grasso, the festival’s namesake, who passed away October 9.

Majors and captains of the band and guard pose with the first place trophy and mascot Teletubbies on October 9. Standing left to right are Nina Srivastava, Nate Hoffert, Evan Keckley, Jeremy Voegeli, Michael Spanedda, and Julia Kaiser. Kneeling are Mia Hochstetler, left, and Kaylee Timmons.
