After a long wait, Newtown Girl Scout Ambassador Troop 50512 finally traveled to Montreal, Canada, September 22-26.

Kirsten Bazuro, a troop leader, said Troop 50512 members started discussing the trip as part of earning the Traveler Badge in March of 2020, but the timing coincided with the national pandemic.

Four members of the troop went on the trip — Jocelyn Bazuro, Ava Cash, Jenna Scoville, and Dakota Briganti — in September. All troop members are now seniors at Newtown High School. Bazuro and Ann Scoville accompanied the Girl Scouts on the trip.

Jocelyn and Jenna have been in Girl Scouts since they were Daisies, roughly 13 years, Ava has been in Girl Scouts for seven years, and Dakota has been in Girl Scouts for six years, according to Bazuro.

Since starting to plan the trip, Troop 50512 members held fundraising events — such as paint nights for younger Girl Scouts, selling treats and wreaths, and selling Girl Scout Cookies.

Bazuro said the troop chose Montreal after researching multiple places and options. She said the troop members felt like it would be a fun place to visit that would give them an international experience without the expense of visiting a destination farther away.

The Troop 50512 members chose the itinerary for the trip. Bazuro said the trip included visiting Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal, a walking ghost tour in Old Montreal, a stop at La Ronde theme park, visiting the Botanical Garden in Montreal, taking a bagel-making class, seeing the Biosphere environmental museum, and stopping at Mount Royal Park.
