Vote Out Of Love, Not Hate
To The Editor:
I write this letter as a patriotic American, not as a Democrat. This election is not about red versus blue.
We must, unequivocally and without exception, elect leaders who are diehard defenders of the American Constitution. That must be our north star, up and down the ballot, today and every day.
We live in a time of rampant corruption. Bribery scandals reach the highest levels of government. Elected officials trade stocks to enrich themselves. Enormous sums of political money drown out ordinary voters. This is all happening in plain sight.
A candidate who is not outspokenly opposed to corruption and bigotry should not earn your vote. You deserve better.
We must do everything we can to end the war in Iran. America’s strength lies in its moral leadership, not its ability to inflict violence. Our leaders must understand that.
That is why I am voting for Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, because we must restore the balance of power in Washington and confront corruption.
In our federal system, state leaders are a critical check on Washington, and we need pro-democracy fighters in Hartford. That is why I am also so proud that Rob Blanchard, Julie Kerton, and Michelle Embree Ku are on the ballot.
I love our country and have expressed that love by wearing the uniform and leading patriotic soldiers, all of whom swore an oath to defend the Constitution. That oath does not expire, and all Americans should live by it, whether you have served or not.
So please, do not take our democracy for granted. It is fragile and needs your help. And when you cast your ballot, do not vote out of hate for your opponents. Vote out of love for your neighbors, and for our country.
