EMT Course Offered At NHS

Newtown High School Continuing Education and the Newtown Ambulance Service are offering EMT – Basic, a course opened to junior and senior level students in the high school as well as staff and students enrolled in the evening program.

The one-year course for two credits will meet on Tuesday and Thursday, beginning November 8, from 6 to 9 pm at the high school. There will be a total of 40 classes and will end in mid- to late- April depending on possible snow days this year.

Students must attend 130 hours of instruction to be eligible to take the certification exam. All students enrolled in the EMT – Basic course will be required to take the certification exam in order to pass the course. A passing grade is not required on the exam to pass the class.

The cost of the course for a student is $85. The fee covers books, and the fee for the certification exam. A $50 book fee is due at the first class and an additional $35 will be due closer to testing time for the certification exam.

Additional information about the Emergency Medical Technician career can be found at Bridges.com, an online career exploration and planning system website.

Students interested in taking the course should contact Peg Ragaini in the Career Center before Friday, November 2, or call 426-1915.
