Arrested On Warrant

The Newtown Police Department was notified by Southington police on October 9 to confirm that a warrant issued by the Newtown police for Janusz Przeszlowski, 43, of Southington, was still active. The warrant charged Prezeslowski with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle while his license was suspended, and failure to appear in court. Two Newtown police officers brought Przeszlowski back to Newtown where he was held on a court set bond of $10,000 until he was transported to Danbury Superior Court for arraignment. An October 28 court date was set.

Hits A Tree

Vanda M. Cunha, 22, of Danbury was driving a 1997 Toyota UEX southbound on South Main Street when her car left the roadway, drove off the right shoulder and struck a tree. She was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to police, who gave her a written warning for making a restricted turn. The vehicle had significant front-end damage and was towed.

Crash At Light

Two vehicles collided at the corner of Route 25 and Route 302 at 7:53 on October 5. A 1995 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Simon Edwards, 35, of Great Britain collided with a 1997 Saturn coupe driven by Neal A. O’Neal, 42, of Bethel. Edwards was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal and driving without a license.

Car Hits Tree

David Feliciano, 29, of Bridgeport was driving a 1998 Ford Contour southbound on Toddy Hill Road near Turkey Roost Road at 2:20 am on October 12 when his vehicle crossed the northbound lane and went off the shoulder, striking a tree and coming to rest in a homeowner’s front yard. Feliciano was transported to Danbury Hospital for evaluation. The United Fire Company of Botsford came to the scene of the accident to assist.

Hits Guardrail

Ross C. Proctor, 18, of Butterfield Road, Newtown, was driving a 2000 Acura northbound on Georges Hill Road on October 7 at 6:14 pm when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve and drove straight into a guardrail, according to police. He was not injured. Police cited him for making a restricted turn. The vehicle was towed.

Driving Under Suspension

Justin Harding, 19, of Elm Drive, Newtown, was stopped by police at 3:09 pm on October 10 at the Big Y supermarket and charged with operating a vehicle while his license was suspended. Police said the vehicle was spotted on Queen Street and Harding was known to have a suspended license. He was arrested and released on a $100 cash bond to appear in Danbury Superior Court on October 28.

Rear Ender

A two-vehicle accident occurred on October 1 at 4:48 pm in front of 67 Church Hill Road. Police said a 1998 Ford driven by George Hamilakis, 37, of Southbury struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Bradley Moroni, 44, of Huntingtown Road, Newtown, when it was raining and the road was wet. There were no injuries.

Following Too Closely

Adolph A. Rica, Jr, 42, of Monroe was driving a 1986 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on South Main Street in heavy traffic at 5:32 pm on October 9 when traffic slowed. Rica’s vehicle struck the rear of a 1987 Ford pickup driven by William Fitchel, 50, of Roxbury, causing minor damage to both vehicles, according to police. There were no injuries.

Pedestrian Hit

Corrine A. Yakush, 48, of Butterfield Road told police that she was driving eastbound on Berkshire Road at 5:53 pm on October 10 when an unidentified pedestrian entered the roadway from the eastbound shoulder and was struck by the right front of her vehicle. The pedestrian declined medical attention and left the scene, she said. Anyone who has any information on this incident, which occurred near 12 Berkshire Road, is asked to call the Newtown police at 426-5841 regarding case 9703-7351.

Lost Control

Maryann Rabuse, 22, of New Fairfield was charged with driving too fast for conditions after she lost control of her vehicle on Jeremiah Road at 7:46 pm on October 12. The 1991 Pontiac Grand Am failed to negotiate a curve near Stone Gate Lane, crossed into the westbound lane then back to the eastbound, slid off the shoulder and spun around 180 degrees. No injuries were reported. The car was towed.

Three-Car Mishap

Police said three vehicles were involved in a minor accident on eastbound Church Hill Road on October 4 at 1:40 pm when a 1997 Honda Civic driven by Kristin Halili, 38, of Glen Road, Sandy Hook, stopped to make a left turn into a parking lot. A 2000 Buick driven by Daniel J. Healy Jr, 44, of Syracuse, N.Y., stopped behind her. A 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by Stephen R. Gogliettino, 36, of Riverside Road was unable to stop, colliding with the Buick, which then collided with the Civic. There was minor damage to all three vehicles. Gogliettino received a written warning for following too closely.

Failure To Appear

Sean D. Sellars, 32, of Staunton, Va., was turned over to Newtown police by Bethel police on October 12 at 2:30 pm as a result of an outstanding arrest warrant. Sellars, who formerly lived in Newtown, had been arrested in 1995 on charges of driving under the influence and making an unsafe movement with his vehicle but had failed to appear in court. A rearrest warrant was issued by Danbury Superior Court. Following his arrest on October 12, he was held on a $1,000 court-set bond for appearance in court on October 14.

 

Off Boggs Hill

Jaclyn M. Curran, 17, of Sugar Street, was driving on Boggs Hill Road at 11:35 pm on October 12 when she failed to negotiate a left curve in the road, according to police. Her vehicle went off the roadway on the southbound shoulder and hit a tree. She was not injured. Police gave her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Hit A Rock

Police said Chantal N. Thompson, 16, of Sugar Hill Road, was driving on Key Rock Road at 9:43 pm on October 12 when she failed to negotiate a left turn on the wet road surface, went off the road on and hit a large rock. She was not injured. Police gave her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Stolen Mailbox

Police said a Valleyfield North Road resident reported that his black metal mailbox was stolen sometime between October 11 and October 12. Anyone with information should call the police at 426-5841.

Burglary

A Morris Road resident told police that sometime on October 10 someone entered her house and stole three jewelry boxes and several pieces of jewelry. No other items were taken. Anyone with information should contact the Newtown police.

Fender Bender

Police said a 2002 Nissan Sentra driven by a Sandy Hook resident was driving westbound on Riverside Road when a 1987 Toyota pickup driven by Christopher J. Dennis, 33, of Waterbury turned onto Riverside from Cherry Street and struck the Nissan. The Nissan was driven by Crystal Davila, 20, of Forest Drive. There was minor damage to both vehicles. Dennis was given a written warning for failure to grant the right-of-way at a stop sign.

Drug Charges

Gerald Cavaliere, 41, of Hattertown Road, was arrested on a court warrant by Troop G in Bridgeport on a charge of failure to appear in court on September 3 on several drug charges. He had been charged with possession of marijuana, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance other than marijuana, and failure to keep a controlled substance in its original container. A court date of October 28 was set. Cavaliere posted a $3,000 bond and was turned over to Stratford police who held a warrant for his arrest.

Into The Ditch

Shane D. French, 35, of Middletown, N.Y., was driving a 2002 Chevrolet utility truck southbound on Valley Field Road South at 7:54 am on October 15 when he moved over on the narrow road to let a northbound vehicle pass. The utility truck slid off the sounder into a utility pole and ditch, and had to be towed from the scene. No enforcement action was taken.

School Vandalism

Sometime in between Saturday morning, October 11, and Monday morning, October 13, someone broke a six-foot window in the rear of Head O’ Meadow School. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department at 426-5841 regarding case 9703-7443.

Attempted Burglary

Someone entered a house under construction at 3 Kay Lane sometime between 1 pm on October 14 and 11 am on October 15 and attempted to remove a boiler from a utility room in the basement. The person entered through the utility room basement, disconnected the water lines, electrical connection, and flue from the boiler but left without removing it. Anyone with information should contact the Newtown police.

Multiple Charges

Pamela Gage, 48, of Totem Trail, Sandy Hook, turned herself in to police on October 15 after learning that a warrant had been issued for her arrest on a charge of failure to appear in court on September 19. She had been arrested on September 2 after being involved in a one-car accident in which her car hit a telephone pole. In that incident she was charged with driving under the influence, making an improper turn, and possession of narcotics. Gage posted a $500 cash bond and was released pending a court appearance on October 30.

No Passing Zone

Malti J. Rana, 43, of Danbury was charged with improper passing in a no-passing zone on October 14 at 2:12 pm after his 2000 Honda Accord struck a vehicle being driven by Thomas F. Maurath, 58, of Old Stream Road, Newtown, on Mile Hill Road at the entrance to the Exit 11 commuter parking lot. Police said the driver of a third vehicle stopped on Mile Hill to allow Maurath to turn left out of the parking lot. Rana passed that vehicle on the left and struck Maurath’s car. Rana complained of neck pain and was transported to Danbury Hospital by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance.

Three-Car Crash

Three vehicles were involved in an accident on Mt Pleasant Road at Diamond Drive at 7:48 am on October 15. Police said a car stopped on Mt Pleasant to allow a vehicle to pull out of Diamond Drive and make a right turn into the westbound lane. A 2002 BMW driven by Susan Portnoy, 48, of Winding Road, Newtown, also stopped, as did a vehicle driven by Conrad Neufeld, 60, of Joan Drive. A 1996 Volvo driven by Richard J. Seman, 41, of Middlebury could not stop and hit the rear of Neufeld’s car, pushing it into the Portnoy vehicle, according to police. Seman was given a written warning for following too close.

Phone Found

Police said a white Uden dual handset phone was found on Hattertown Road on October 15. It may be claimed at the police department.
