Sunday, October 26 â The Newtown Bridle Lands Association will hold its Frost on the Pumpkin Pace on Sunday, October 26, 8 am to 12 noon, at Mount Nebo Road. A buffet lunch will be held from 11 am to 2 pm. Entries close on October 22, or when pace is full. Sunday, November 9 â The Woodbury FFA will host its annual Hunter Pace on Sunday, November 9,. The event is open to teams of riders and is designed to simulate a traditional foxhunt. All proceeds will benefit the Woodbury FFA, a national agricultural youth leadership organization associated with the Agri-Science program at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury. There will be Hack (slower) and Hunt (faster) divisions that will be divided into junior and senior entries. Cost is $50 for seniors and $40 for juniors under 18. Special awards for Best Matched Pair, Turtle Team, Youngest Rider, Family Award, and highest-placing 4-H, FFA and Pony Club teams will be presented. Sunday, November 23 â Cricker Brook Farm in Monroe will hold a Schooling Show on Saturday, November 23. Classes will include Leadline, Walk/Trot, Beginner, Pleasure Hunter, Jumper and Equitation. Sunday, November 2 â The Second Company Governorâs Horse Guard will hold its Saddle-Up Trail Ride for the benefit of St. Judeâs Childrenâs Hospital on Sunday, November 2, between 9 am and 12 noon. Single riders can meet at 11 am to form a group. There will be pony rides for the kids from 10 am to 12 noon. Rain date is November 9. Call Corporal Jackie Sundblade for directions and registration forms at 729-5646. All riders should have proof of rabies vaccinations and a negative Coggins test.
Dog Events
Sunday, October 19 â The Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) will hold its annual âWalk for the Animalsâ on Sunday, October 19, at the War Memorial at Rogers Park. Registration will be 10:30 am to 12 noon, a police K-9 demonstration will be from 11:30 to 11:45 am, and the walk will be 12:30 to 2 pm. Contests and drawings will follow. Friday, October 17 â Colonel Christian Carde of the Cadre Noir riding school in Saumur, France, will be giving a lecture on lightness and harmony for all disciplines of riding from western to jumping to dressage on Friday, October 17, at 8 pm, at the Edmond Town Hall. There will also be a question and answer discussion. There is a $5 fee. Colonel Carde will be giving a riding clinic in Roxbury with the focus on Saturday and Sunday, October 18 and 19.
