Audrey S. Gaffney
Audrey S. Gaffney, 89, wife of the late Vincent P. Gaffney, formerly of Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown, died October 11, in Ashlar of Newtown.
Mrs Gaffney was born in Middletown, June 4, 1914, a daughter of the late Howard and Mollie (Brooks) Sherman.
A resident of Newtown for more than 60 years, she formerly lived on Toddy Hill Road, Sandy Hook, for many years.
Audrey was an active member of the Newtown Congregational Church, where she served as a former Sunday School Superintendent and was an original member of the bell choir. She was a longtime member of the Womenâs Fellowship.
For 15 years, she was secretary for the Fairfield County Farm Bureau. In 1972, Mrs Gaffney was named outstanding Mother of the Year by the Connecticut Farm Bureau.
For several years she was an assistant at the Newtown Senior Center. She was a longtime member of Mirah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Pootatuck Grange.
Mrs Gaffney is survived by four sons, Sherman Gaffney of Palatine Bridge, N.Y.; James Gaffney of Pittsboro, N.C.; Fred Gaffney of Syracuse, N.Y.; and the Rev Donald Gaffney of Beaver Falls, Penn.; one sister, Marjorie Thorpe of Glastonbury, Conn.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held October 15 in the Newtown Congregational Church. Interment was in Zoar Cemetery.
